Is Russia any different from the old Soviet Union? Or is the great bear mearly sleeping, still ruling its own people by fear and corruption. Over the years Putin's government has maintained power by outright corruption. Russian opposition to his political ambitions suddenly find themselves out of work or murdered. For some of the Russian elite they didn't loose the Cold War, but are waiting for the right time to resume the fight.

Yes, I've been thinking along the same lines. This could be a serious international crisis that could soon make N. Korea, Iraq, etc. look almost trivial
