The way that Canadian Accounting standards are headed are to comply 100% with international standards. Is this a shrewed reporting based compliance decision? Or is it once again the Canadian comprimising its own soverignty over their own Generally Accepted Accounting Standards?
It should be up to Canadian accounting bodies to establish our own compliance based system. Just like SOX in the USA would not work in Canada (were over 85% of the corporate base has revenues less than a million dollars), Canada has a much smaller economic base from which reporting standards have been established to serve. Just as all roads do not lead to Rome, so not all nations have the same reporting needs. Each respective states whether small, medium or large must find their own methods of fulfilling the requirements of the conceptual framework for financial statement reporting.
